It’s “Nowruz”: a new Day!
With traditional live music, dance, and colorful vibrant Haft-Seen table
During Nowruz, families come together to set up a Haft-Seen table, which is a traditional display of seven symbolic items. These items include Sabzeh (wheat or lentil sprouts), symbolizing rebirth and growth, Senjed (dried fruit), representing love and affection, Samanu (sweet pudding), signifying fertility and abundance, Seer (garlic), symbolizing health and protection, Seeb (apple), representing beauty and health, Somagh (sumac), representing the color of sunrise, and Serkeh (vinegar), symbolizing patience and wisdom.
The celebration of Nowruz also involves lively music and dance performances. Traditional instruments such as the tar, setar, and daf are played, creating joyful and uplifting melodies. People dance in traditional costumes, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the Persian community. The vibrant displays of colored eggs add to the festive atmosphere, symbolizing fertility and new beginnings.
Nowruz is not confined to Persian culture alone. It is celebrated by various communities and ethnicities around the world, including those in Central Asia, the Caucasus, and the Balkans. This cultural inclusivity makes Nowruz a truly global celebration, fostering unity and appreciation of diversity.
As spring arrives and nature blooms, Nowruz serves as a reminder of the cyclical nature of life and the resilience of the human spirit. People engage in spring cleaning, reflecting the spirit of rejuvenation. It is a time to reflect on the past year, set new goals, and embrace the opportunities that lie ahead. Nowruz embodies the interconnectedness of humanity, emphasizing the importance of unity, love, and cultural continuity.
So, come and join our Open House for the occasion of Nowruz, as we herald the arrival of spring and celebrate the universal values of renewal and hope. Let us welcome the new day together and embrace the beauty of diversity and the shared experience of being human. Happy Nowruz!
