Celebrated on September 27th, World Tourism Day is a day to recognize and spread awareness about the importance and relevance of World Tourism. It’s a day to understand how tourism impacts our culture, economy, and society on a global level.  World Tourism Day has been celebrated since 1980 by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).

World Tourism Day 2022 Theme
This year’s theme for World Tourism Day is ‘Rethinking Tourism’. This means to literally rethink what tourism means to us, to our culture, to our economy, and to our world as we know it. It’s to revise our old ways of thinking, so that we can transform tourism for the better. UNWTO secretary general, Zurab Pololikashvili says, “On World Tourism Day 2022, UNWTO calls on both tourism leaders and everyone at the base of the broad and diverse tourism pyramid to pause, reflect and rethink what we do and how we do it. The future of tourism starts today.”

This year marks the 42nd World Tourism Day till date. UNWTO’s World Tourism Day 2022 celebrations will be held in Bali, Indonesia.
