Origin
World Day for International Justice is observed annually on July 17th with the aim of promoting global awareness and supporting international justice, particularly in relation to the International Criminal Court (ICC) and other international criminal tribunals. The day provides an opportunity to reflect on the importance of international justice and the role of international criminal tribunals in holding individuals accountable for the most serious crimes under international law, such as genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity. The international institutions on this day underscore through its campaigns that no one is above the law and that everyone must have the right to justice.
Solutions From International Justice
The international court of justice has helped resolve multifarious issues such as Chad v. Libya, Nicaragua v. United States and LaGrand case (Germany v. United States). Similarly, the rulings of international justice resolved the conflict among East Timor and Indonesia, and assisted the people of East Timor to attain separation from Indonesia. The fruitful forum has also brought the violators of the targets of carbon emission under the law, helping hinder climate change. The international justice system is also likely to be a boon to stop a war in the future over water distribution.
Challenges
The absence of proper structure of law enforcement by the International Criminal Court and its inability to bind states to follow its rulings have provided a path to war mongers to loom on the world and hurt the peace of the world. The convicted persons by the international courts are out of prisons. The fragile international justice system could not stop the standoffs of decades and new ones, resulting in losing its credibility and recognition as a peace maker before the world. The illegal and unbridled annexation plan of countries is a bad outcome of the dependency of the International Court of Justice, an international civil court, on UNSC.
UNESCO BMW’s Involvement
UNESCO BMW, an institution dedicated to restore order and peace in the world, has acknowledged the efforts of the international judicial system for the peace of the world and highlighted the deficiencies in the model of the international judicial system. With the tenacity in its goals, UNESCO BMW is utilizing the platform of social media and print media to underscore the weaknesses of the system.
UNESCO BMW’s Vision
UNESCO BMW is clear in its vision of harnessing peace in the world and people’s lives. It is disseminating the awareness about physical exercises as it is very crucial for healthy living.
