The Origin
World Ocean Day, celebrated on 8 June every year, serves as a reminder to save the oceans and
recognizes its importance in the world. On this day, international institutions including the
United Nations and UNESCO BMW hold seminars worldwide and make arrangements for
writings, culminating awareness among the people of every nook and cranny of the world on
the value of oceans for the earth.
Importance of the Day
Oceans play an instrumental role in economic development of countries and individuals as they
are a big source of fishing and provide a cost-effective route for trade. They consume more than
one-third percent of oxygen generated by human activities and provide sheet to the world from
the curse of climate change and global warming. Likewise, oceans are a large source of
oxygen and food for human beings. Despite their great significance, oceans are under severe threat from human activities. Climate change, pollution, overfishing, and habitat destruction are deteriorating the health of the ocean. Implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 14: Life Below Water is alarmingly off track with 50% of its targets showing regression. Goal 14 still remains critically underfunded. The wastage of plastic in oceans still prevails, resulting in the premature deaths of blue lives because of engulfing plastic.
UNESCO BMW’s Involvement
UNESCO BMW, an institution dedicated to restore order and peace in the world, has stood up
to ensure the safety of oceans as they can be helpful in a better future of the planet. With
tenacity in its goals, UNESCO BMW is sensitizing the issue in the whole world with full of energy and potential through social media and print media platforms.
UNESCO BMW’s Vision
UNESCO BMW is clear in its vision of harnessing peace in the world and people’s lives. We are disseminating the awareness about physical exercises as it is very crucial for healthy living.
Today, people are suffering from depression and mental stress worldwide and the absence of
physical activities have further hurt them. UNESCO BMW is promoting the culture of yoga which is helpful in meditation and killing depression. Moreover, we want to highlight every socio-political issue of the world with an aim of determining the solution.
