The vision for International Democracy Day is to celebrate and recognize the important role that young people play in society and to promote their rights, well-being, and empowerment. Our goal is to raise awareness about the challenges and issues faced by youth worldwide while also highlighting their potential as drivers of positive change and innovation. Through this day, the international community of our world seeks to foster a sense of solidarity and support for young people, ensuring that their voices are heard, and their contributions are acknowledged and valued.
UNESCO BMW’s Involvement
UNESCO is actively involved in the organization of International Democracy Day, which is celebrated every year in different parts of the world. The organization intends to promote dialogue and cooperation and to provide support to journalists and media workers. This includes encouraging training and capacity-building programs, as well as promoting public speaking among citizens to help them understand the role of the governance and free speech in society. We organize talking circles, in efforts to encourage freedom of expression, diversity, and inclusion, especially for the youth & rising political figures. Moreover, UNESCO BMW aims to promote diversity in the media, both in terms of the voices and perspectives represented and in terms of the ownership and control of media outlets. Our organization believes that a diverse media landscape is essential for a healthy democracy and for the promotion of human rights. Our actions taken additionally work towards enhancing the support of our ecology and the sphere of world peace and habituating ethical practices of governance.
